Despite the importance of maintaining flexible pavements in optimal conditions to guarantee the trafficability and comfort of users, the evaluation of failures in these pavements is usually a slow and costly process.Early detection of these failures is essential to prevent them from escalating and generating higher rehabilitation costs.Furthermore, in some areas of the city of Lima, the lack of government budget and availability for road maintenance further complicates the situation. This article addresses the evaluation of functional failures in flexible pavements, incorporating the use of mobile technology and image processing through the use of the MATLAB tool compared to the conventional method of Pavement Condition Index (PCI) according to ASTM D6433.The implementation of mobile technology together with the processing of photographic images for the evaluation of the PCI of the paveme...

The presence of moisture on a pavement causes sudden changes in direction, decreased speed and even vehicular accidents, because the slip resistance is reduced. Therefore, it forces the driver to travel in a more conservative way. This article evaluates the slip resistance of a permeable concrete pavement considering curved sections, which are critical points with difficulty in maneuvering. In addition, the comparison of the International Friction Index (IFI) of two prototypes is developed by carrying out the British Pendulum and Sand Circle test. Therefore, the friction coefficient F(s) at different speeds is determined. The results indicate that, in the critical condition, that is, when the tire is new, the friction F(s) of the permeable pavement is 44.5% greater compared to a conventional pavement when the speed is 60 km/h. This is, how the values obtained contribute to meeting the id...

This study focuses on thoroughly examining how the geometric characteristics of rural roads in Peru impact safety, using the Highway Safety Manual (HSM) as the primary reference point. By adjusting the predictive HSM model to fit specific conditions, the most significant variables in anticipating road incidents were identified. Out of the 14 considered variables, three emerge as the most relevant in accident prediction. The presence of rumble strips, the Hazard Index in sections with obstacles and barriers account for 47.74% of relevance, while variables related to horizontal curves, such as length and radius, contribute with 18.35% importance in this predictive calculation. This study emphasizes the need to expand the database with information from other roads sharing similar characteristics. This would not only improve the accuracy of the calculation but also confirm the priority of th...

In Peru there are many roads where accidents occur due to their inadequate geometric design. The traffic accidents with the most incidents are of the side collision or collision type with a percentage of 42.73%, and distraction with 20.19% [1]. This shows that it is necessary to carry out a redesign on this road that seeks to reduce the percentage of accidents in the area. For the case study, a section of a 3km highway located in Santiago de Chuco, north of the city of Lima, was used. Thanks to the photogrammetric record of the current state of the road, sectors with geometric deficiencies were identified, such as visibility distance and safety in terms of precariousness in the use of signaling. Likewise, the evaluation carried out in the stopping and overtaking visibility distance concludes that with a constant speed of 30 km/h there are stretchs or sections that do not meet the necessa...

According to the Association of Traffic Accident Victims (AVIACTRAN), on average there are 10 potholes per kilometer of flexible pavement in the city of Lima. This is due to the lack of timely road maintenance by government authorities, as they do not have a system that allows them to identify in real time the different pavement defects to make decisions. To address this problem, this paper proposes the use of the Cascade Trainer GUI algorithm and Python programming to determine defects in flexible pavements. The proposal consists of training the algorithm with images of different pavement defects using mobile phone cameras or drones for data collection and evaluation of the condition of the pavement. The implementation of the model provides a saving of 60% in the detection time of functional defects of the pavement compared to the traditional method. The methodology detects 5 types of defect...
