We have determined antiaxidant enzyme activities of: Superoxide Dismutase (SOD), Glutatione Peroxidase (GPx) and Catalase (CAT); levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and hydroperoxids as lipoperoxidation indicators, and phospholilpase activity as mediator of the lipoperoxidation in cerebral tissue of guinea pigs born and bred in Cerro de Pasco at 4 300 m (ALT), with respect to guinea pigs at sea level (NM), in order to detect real differences between both groups. La “solitaria”, la Taenia solium adulta usualmente vive como único individuo en el intestino delgado de los humanos, es hermafrodita y se autofertiliza. Los mecanismos de variación genética no se conocen con exactitud, sin embargo podrían ser útiles para rastrear la transmisión del parásito. Este estudio explora la variabilidad genética de T. solium utilizando microsatélites en dos estudios. El primero explora la variabilidad genética de cisticercos extraídos de cerdos infectados experimentalmente, para ello se infectaron dos grupos de tres cerdos cada uno con proglotis de dos parásitos adultos de T. solium genéticamente diferentes.
