An enemy of the health is invisible, frightful and quiet exists that appropriately is proliferated in closed environments. An inert gas denominated radon, which is product of uranium 238U, uranium 235U and thorium 232Th and is considered cancerigenic by the World Organization of the Health (WHO). By the abrupt climatic changes in the Puno zone (Macusani), the pupils of the schools are forced to study in closed rooms. Macusani is the most important district of Peru which produces uranium. Uranium disintegrates in its daughters 218Po, 214Pb, 214Bi, 214Po… 206Pb, which are radioactive and dangerous. For that reason the present work of investigation focuses on the calculation the concentration of radon, in educative environments and the impact that it generates on the students. This study was made in Macusani. The analysis (with techniques of gamma spectroscopy and canister of activated ch...

It was determined the levels of antioxidant enzymes: Glutathione Peroxidase (GPx), Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) and Catalase (CAT), and the concentratíon of Malondialdehyde (MDA) as an indicator of lipid peroxidatíon in erythrocytes of 60 apparently healthy people: 30 residents at high altitude (Cerro de Paseo, 4340 m) and 30 residents at sea level (Lima, 150 m). We found erythrocyte GPx levels higher in high altitude natives than in the sea level ones (p < .001). No statistically significant differencc was found between the val u es obtained for SOD in high altitude na ti ves and those of sea leveL The CAT activity was lower in subjccts of high altitude in relation to those of sea level (p < .001). High altitude native MDA levels also were lower than those obtained at sea level (p < .001). We concluded that Glutathione Peroxidase is the main antioxidant enzyme for the detoxific...
