Objective: To determine the risk factors associated with low back pain in marines attended by an outpatient of the Centro Médico Naval in Lima in 2017. Methods: Cases and controls study that included 66 cases and 132 controls, obtaining the information from medical records of the personnel of the Peruvian Navy in activity attended by an outpatient of physical medicine and rehabilitation through a validated data collection form. For the calculation of the chi-square and the p-value; logistic regression was used to estimate the Odds Ratio (OR) and CI 95%. Results: Of the total population, the male sex was 90.4%, the median age was 26 years (IR: 36-77). The presence of low back pain was associated in the multivariate analysis with age (OR = 1.05; 95% CI (0.94 - 1.16)), service time (OR = 0.91; 95% CI (0, 81-1)), overweight or obesity (OR = 2.24; 95% CI (1.16-4.28)) and dyslipidemia, (OR = ...

Systemic lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune disease with multisystem involvement, an alternating clinical course, and which constitutes a diagnostic challenge, with a greater disease activity in the pediatric age group, which also darkens its prognosis. In this article, we report the case of a ten year old female patient who debuted with systemic lupus erythematosus with gastrointestinal, renal and hematological involvement; the chronic course coupled with the varied clinical spectrum suggested the diagnostic possibility.

More child abuse cases are reported in Peru every year; however, there is no official report that describes the actual incidence, especially of the most vulnerable population such as infants. Signs of physical abuse generally involve brain injury and constitute shaken baby syndrome or pediatric abusive head trauma, which is a challenging diagnostic challenge. A 3-month-old infant is admitted to the emergency room for 30-minute generalized tonic-clonic seizures. On physical examination, the presence of a bony callus on the right clavicle was striking. A brain tomography and magnetic resonance imaging were performed, showing hyperintense lesions in the white matter, non-contrast enhancers, limited diffusion, and a bilateral subdural collection. Together, a bone survey was taken, which revealed multiple fractures in different areas of the body and suspecting the case of child abuse, so...

Objective: To determine the sociodemographic variables associated with depression in the elderly of Peru based on the information obtained through the Demographic and Family Health Survey (ENDES) of the year 2017 carried out by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI). Methods: An observational, correlational and cross-sectional study that used a probabilistic sample of 4917 older adults (60 years and over). For the determination of depression in the population, the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ) of 9 questions included in the health questionnaire in the mental health section of ENDES 2017 was used as an instrument. Results: The prevalence of depression in the Peruvian elderly in 2017 was 14.2%. As sociodemographic variables associated with depression were the female sex [OR 1.995 (1.684 -2.364)]; lack instruction [ORaj 2.524 (2.126-2996)]; the age over 75 yea...

Introduction: Suicide manifests itself through multiple behaviors, it begins with suicidal ideationand ends with suicide. Objective: To demonstrate the risk factors associated with suicidal ideation inpatients with depression cared for in a level III-2 hospital in Peru. Methods: Observational, analytical,cross-sectional study, with a quantitative approach. Sampling was non-probabilistic for convenience; thesample was made up of 201 patients attended by an external psychiatric clinic of the María Auxiliadorahospital, from January to February 2020. The survey technique, a data collection form and the adaptedBeck scale instrument were used. Results: Of the 201 patients, 46 (22.9%) had suicidal ideation, of them,25 (54.3%) were young, female 27 (58.7%), had no partner 27 (58.6 %), 32 (69.7%) were born in Lima, received treatment for more than one year 43 (93.5%), had a regular to poor family...
