Esta investigación ha tenido el propósito de efectuar un estudio de las relaciones entre la pobreza, la mala alimentación y la desnutrición de la población infantil de los asentamientos humanos de la ciudad de Huaraz entre 1993-2005. Para tal efecto, se ha conceptualizado sobre la pobreza, la mala alimentación, la desnutrición y los asentamientos humanos y se ha utilizado el modelo de análisis denominado Necesidades Básicas Insatisfechas (Calidad de vivienda, hacinamiento-tugurización, acceso a los servicios básicos, acceso a los servicios educativos y al menos 1 necesidad básica insatisfecha), y los componentes de la canasta básica, como son: no pobres, pobreza extrema y pobreza según el poder adquisitivo que tengan.
