This investigation is framed in the applied geography field by the use of geomorphology analysis, satellital images and geomatic techniques. Main endogenous and exogenous causes that produce removal process in mass in the sub-river basin of the stream Cojup, that is concordant in its low part with the city of Huaraz, are identified. Main process of present occupation of this city supported with «Model of Elevation of Relieve (DEM) and coincident with of very high dangerous zones, and consequently incompatible with welcome capacity is identified.

The peripheric and urban expansion area of Huaraz is taking place on the lower part of Anqui River’s Sub Basin, between 3,200 and 3,500 m.a.s.l. These areas were traditionally used to develop agricultural and livestock activities. Nevertheless, because of the economic boom of Huaraz, these areas are being urbanized slowly but constantly. The lower part of the basin is a natural area of fluvioglaciar sedimentation and mass motion (water, mud, and rock avalanches). In the highest parts of the basin the origin of the above mentioned natural process is the glaciar erosion and fusion of the glaciar mass. The incidence of avalanches, which could affect the lower part of the basin is slow. Nevertheless, the chance of having one like in 1941 or 1970 is not to be ruled out because Perú is a highly seismic country.

Watersheds are large natural units where the hydrological cycle takes shape in the continents, with water being the central element. Normally, these units are delimited qualitatively considering a continuous dividing line that roughly joins the points of the high parts of positive geoforms such as mountains or hills. Taking into account the natural criterion of drainage, the watershed is structured by a network of streams or channels and in turn can be classified or sorted. The aforementioned drainage network is subdivided into sub-basins, one or two of these can give rise to the main current that is normally a river and in turn determine the head of the basin. The classification of drainage basins is one of the methods known universally to delimit units and subunits and that must be taken into account to solve the problems of delimitation of headwaters of watersheds in our country. Curr...

Geomorphologically, the La Yesera torrent is a unit of the relief that is characterized by the occurrence of deep mass movements because intense weathering and erosion processes occur in its reception basin. Geologically, the reception basin of the said unit is a batolith with rocks deformed by fractures and failures. The drainage channel and fan of the torrent is covered with powerful layers of mud (sand) and blocks (clasts and bowling). The proluvial fan of the torrent is very dissected due to the impact and the sharp action of alluvium (huaycos) during the recent quaternary (last 10,000 years). The aforementioned proluvial fan is located adjacent to the Ica River, on its left bank. The paved road that connects the town of San José Los Molinos with the city of Ica cuts the aforementioned range into two sectors. The first is adjacent to the Ica River that is occupied by farmland and so...

The Hydrographic Unit of the Chucumayo Stream is characterized by mountain reliefs, with a typical hydric regime of semi-arid environments. Soils for clean crops are scarce and are located in alluvial terraces in the lower part of the mentioned sub-basin. While in the mountains the slopes are very steep with soils of colluvial origin and with xerophytic vegetation or scrub. Traditionally, in these spaces, the population has adapted these mountain ecosystems by building agricultural terraces. In some sectors of the upper or head part of the sub-basin pastures and lagoons are located that could be conserved and provide an environmental service (tourism, water recharge or scientific research). On the other hand, the expansion of the urban areas of the town of Matucana towards the lower part of the sub-basin of the Chucumayo stream is one more example of the urbanization process that is taki...

Climate changes that affect our planet nowadays, will lead us to approach to what is happening with the mountain glacial of our country, characterized by its fragility. The Cordillera Blanca is one of the most important glacial areas of our country. Most of the monitoring activities have been carried out on the field where many times a lot of obstacles to collect information are found. In this way, Geomatics, by means of Remote Sensing, helps us to conduct with greater ease the monitoring tasks, using satellite images to determine the melting area of the glaciers. For the study, political boundaries of Huaraz and Independencia districts, as well as the use of several satellite images of 1989, 1998 and 2005 have been considered as references, which help us analyse the behaviour of glacial regression in a period of 16 years and forecast such behaviour by 25 years (2014).
