The study aims to analyze the cognitive ontological and orientational metaphors in the aimara tale “Pani jila sullka”. The aforementioned prose corresponds to the book Musphañjama siwsawinaka (2016). In the Aymara tale, various metaphorical expressions classified into two main categories were identified. The first is the ontological metaphor, which includes the expression deities are people. The second is the orientational metaphor, which encompasses expressions such as high status is up and having control or strength is up. To analyze the metaphorical expressions, the hermeneutic method and the data interpretation technique were used. La investigación denominada metáforas categoriales en las canciones aimaras, aborda la corriente de la lingüística cognitiva, las metáforas en el aimara y en otras lenguas andinas han sido poco indagadas. Los datos estudiados corresponden a distintos cancioneros aimaras editados de forma virtual y físico. Por lo tanto, se tuvo como pregunta ¿cómo se categorizan las metáforas en las canciones aimaras? y el objetivo fue analizar las categorías de las metáforas en las canciones aimaras. Para el estudio se tomó en cuenta el tipo de investigación cualitativa, lo que se efectuó mediante el método hermenéutico y la técnica de interpretación para analizar los datos. This paper is confined to the current of cognitive linguistics, which aims to categorize and analyze the metaphors of personification in traditional Aymara songs. The data have been collected in the songbook “Qala chuyma, traditional Aymara songs”. In analyzing the metaphors, three types of categorizations have been found: animals as animate beings,objects as animate beings, and customs as animate beings. It is concluded that the different metaphors expressed in the Andean elements show and acquire human qualities and attitudes. They coexist with the Aymara man in his daily work. Therefore, they are considered in the Andean world as animate beings.
