AIM: To analyze stress in a metal-ceramic, zirconia and lithium disilicate implant-supported unitary fixed partial prosthesis in the first lower premolar through finite element analysis at a 500 N force. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Three study models were carried out, metalceramic, lithium disilicate and zirconium implant-supported crowns in the first lower premolar. The dental implant was made of titanium grade 5 based on the Bolt® model of UniDentalDirect with internal grooved connection (18 grooves) and the implant had a size of 11,0 x 4,5 mm, preformed abutment and integrated screw. The three designs had vertical and oblique (45°) forces applications at 500 N. The geometric modeling was performed with the SolidWorks® 2017 program and the results were obtained through the Von mises analysis using the CosmoWorks®2017 program. RESULTS: The lowest value of maximum stress on crown level, un...

THE OBJECTIVE OF THE RESEARCH WAS TO DETERMINE THE DIGESTIBILITY OF THE NUTRITIONAL FRACTIONS OF PALM KERNEL CAKE AND TO ESTIMATE THE DIGESTIBLE ENERGY REQUIRED FOR THE FORMULATION OF RATIONS ACCORDING TO THE ANIMAL SPECIES. TEN MALE GUINEA PIGS (BODY WEIGHT: 725 ± 38 G) WERE DISTRIBUTED IN INDIVIDUAL METABOLIC CAGES. THE CONTROL GROUP (N: 5) WAS FED 100% WHEAT BRAN AND THE EXPERIMENTAL GROUP 40% PALM KERNEL CAKE AND 60% WHEAT BRAN. BOTH DIETS CONTAINED THE MINIMUM VITAMIN C REQUIREMENT. THE ADAPTATION PHASE TO THE NEW FEED LASTED 10 DAYS. FOR THE NEXT FIVE DAYS, 50 G OF FEED WAS FED AND FECES WERE COLLECTED DAILY. THE NUTRIENT DIGESTIBILITY COEFFICIENTS DETERMINED BY THE INDIRECT METHOD WERE 69; 70; 81; 61; 66 AND 53% FOR DRY MATTER, CRUDE PROTEIN, ETHER EXTRACT, CRUDE FIBER, NITROGEN FREE EXTRACT AND ASH, RESPECTIVELY. THE DIGESTIBILITY COEFFICIENTS, MULTIPLIED BY THEIR CALORIC VALUES...

This study assessed the morphometric and functional characteristics of oocytes from 10 native cows to the Ecuadorian Andes, collected by transvaginal follicular aspiration (OPU) and oocytes collected post mortem (PM) from abattoir ovaries. For this purpose, 1157 cumulus-oocyte complexes (CCOs) of the OPU group (n=271) and PM group (n=886) were recovered in 10 repetitions per group by follicular aspiration at 90 mm Hg pressure and classified as A, B or C, according to the characteristics of the cytoplasm and cumulus cells. The activity of the enzyme glucose 6 phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) was determined as an indicator of follicular growth and maturation and the integrity of the plasma membrane by staining the CCOs with cresyl brilliant blue (BCB +) and trypan blue, respectively. The size (diameter and volume) of the oocytes was evaluated using CaptaVisio® software v. 5.1. The data were...

Background: Pediatric Early Warning Systems (PEWS) assist early detection of clinical deterioration in hospitalized children with cancer. Relevant to successful PEWS implementation, the “stages of change” model characterizes stakeholder support for PEWS based on willingness and effort to adopt the new practice. Methods: At five resource-limited pediatric oncology centers in Latin America, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 71 hospital staff involved in PEWS implementation. Purposive sampling was used to select centers requiring variable time to complete PEWS implementation, with low-barrier centers (3–4 months) and high-barrier centers (10–11 months). Interviews were conducted in Spanish, professionally transcribed, and translated into English. Thematic content analysis explored “stage of change” with constant comparative analysis across stakeholder types and stud...

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic impacted healthcare delivery worldwide, including pediatric cancer care, with a disproportionate effect in resource-limited settings. This study evaluates its impact on existing quality improvement (QI) programs. Methods: We conducted 71 semi-structured interviews of key stakeholders at five resource-limited pediatric oncology centers participating in a collaborative to implement Pediatric Early Warning System (PEWS). Interviews were conducted virtually using a structured interview guide, recorded, transcribed, and translated into English. Two coders developed a codebook of a priori and inductive codes and independently coded all transcripts, achieving a kappa of 0.8–0.9. Thematic analysis explored the impact of the pandemic on PEWS. Results: All hospitals reported limitations in material resources, reduction in staffing, and impacts on patient care du...
