The aim of this study was to determine the antimicrobial effect of ginger essential oil (Zingiber officinale) on Streptococcus strains that cause cervical lymphadenitis in guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus). Ginger essential oil was obtained through steam distillation, achieving a yield of 0.06%, where the majority component was α-Citral (21.11%). Abscesses were collected from animals with a positive diagnosis for cervical lymphadenitis in commercial farms. Twenty strains from clinical cases, 16 Streptococcus pyogenes strains, and 4 Streptococcus equi subsp zooepidemicus strains were identified and isolated. El objetivo del presente estudio es determinar el efecto antimicrobiano del aceite esencial del kion (Zingiber officinale) sobre cepas de Streptococcus causantes de linfadenitis en cuyes (Cavia porcellus). El aceite esencial de kion fue obtenido a través de la destilación por arrastre de vapor.
