El litoral marino se ve afectado por las considerables cantidades de microplásticos (MPs), y estos se encuentran como MPs primarios y secundarios. En el Puerto Matarani, ubicado en Arequipa, Perú, se realizan actividades como la pesca y la extracción de mariscos. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue evaluar la cantidad y la caracterización visual de microplásticos en el caracol marino Thaisella chocolata en un puerto del sur peruano. Se recolectaron 150 individuos de T. chocolata en dos zonas (A y B) del puerto de Matarani, Arequipa, Perú, en las temporadas de invierno y primavera del 2021. Se digirió el tejido del caracol con KOH 10%, se usó NaCl para la separación de densidades, se filtró; y, finalmente, se determinaron y midieron los MPs hallados por microscopía. Marine ecosystems have been affected by contamination from heavy metals and antifouling organotin paints, where the latter generate the imposex phenomenon in marine gastropods. The presence of heavy metals and imposex in the marine snail Thaisella chocolata was evaluated at the "El Faro" artisanal fishing landing stage and at approximately 2 km from said pier, located in Matarani (Arequipa, Peru), during the winter and spring of 2021. In addition, heavy metals in the water and in the marine sediment were evaluated. Heavy metals in the water, sediment and muscle tissue samples of T. chocolata were compared with national and international standards for environmental quality.
