Este artículo tiene como objetivo principal perfilar la biografía de un indio bilingüe —Juan de Albarado, natural de Chachapoyas— a través de los datos de la experiencia de vida de quien a la manera del más alto ideal renacentista destacó en el ejercicio de la espada y la pluma, es decir, como soldado indioa favor de la Corona y como lengua oficial de la Audiencia de Lima. Las fuentes documentales revisadas (una memoria y una probanza) contienen además muestras ilustrativas de la competencia lingüística y jurídica de un indiolengua de esa época.

This article’s main objective is to reconstruct the life of a bilingual Indian —Juan de Albarado, native of Chachapoyas—, based on data of a man that excelled in the exercise of the sword and the pen achieving the highest Renaissance ideal, that is, as an Indian soldier in favor of the crown and as officialinterpreter of the Audience of Lima. The revised documentary sources (amemory and an interrogation) also contain illustrative examples of the linguistic and legal competence of an Indian interpreter of the colonial period.

This paper addresses the constituent features of the textual type calledmemoria, in the context of the legal-administrative sphere of the ColonialEra. This textual type is embedded in both the Spanish and the native American legal tradition, so it is of particular interest for the history ofthe Spanish language, for the textual linguistics studies and for pragmaticsstudies. The research also aims to demonstrate that in the Peruvian judicial system of the 16th Century there was a particular type of memoria, modeledby the convergence of the Western way of recording data and the useof quipus as Andean recording medium.

El presente artículo intenta aproximarse a los rasgos constitutivos del tipo textual denominado memoria, perteneciente al área jurídico-administrativa de la época colonial. Este tipo textual se enmarca tanto en la tradición judicial castellana como en la indiana, por lo que resulta de especial interés para la historia de la lengua española, así como para los estudios de lingüística textual y de pragmática. Asimismo, la investigación pretende comprobar que en el sistema judicial peruano del siglo XVI existió un tipo de memoria particular, formado a partir de la convergencia del modo occidental de registro de datos y del uso de los quipus como medio de registro andino.

This article presents an account of the research and publications done by philologists and academic researchers from German universities around the Spanish in the Andes —one of its varieties is the «Andean Spanish»— at the stage of the evangelization of Peru in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, which is the topic and the time frame of the topics reviewed articles that comprise this Dossier. Here will be presented in summary form: the evolution of interest in the themes about the Spanish in America; the promoted methods; the different perspectives adopted; and finally, the main contributions of the more recent studies.

El objetivo de esta contribución es presentar el desarrollo del idioma mochica revisando la obra Das Muchik oder die Chimu-Sprache [El mochica o la lengua de los chimú] (1892), de E.W. Middendorf, quien comparó sus apuntes de trabajo de campo con referentes ya publicados, en un afán por esbozar el estado actualizado del habla del que fuera uno de los idiomas prehispánicos más importantes de la costa norperuana. Tras una breve revisión de los antecedentes histórico-textuales, las obras de Oré (1607) y Carrera (1644), sobre el último de los cuales volverá Middendorf, se señalarán los puntos más relevantes del estudio del sabio alemán para confirmar la importancia de sus aportes a la historia de las lenguas en el Perú.
