Introduction: Choosing to study Physical Education Teacher Education is a complex process shaped by personal experiences, intrinsic motivations, and contextual conditions that contribute to the construction of a teacher’s professional identity during initial training. Objective: To understand the factors influencing the vocational decision-making of students at the beginning of their training in this degree programme. Methods: A qualitative approach was employed with a purposive sample of 80 first-semester students from a public university in the Valparaíso region, Chile.
