Although it receives different names, little is known about its activity. It is the ombudsman's role to receive and investigate complaints made by consumers regarding the impartiality and good taste in news coverage. This is the modern sense of the character which dates from 1967 when it was first introduced in an American newspaper. The present article reports on the ombudsman's objectives, its differential characteristics, its functions, its typology, its qualities, its advantages and limitations and clarifies some aspects related to the history of this professional character.

The following article is the result of an investigation aimed at evaluating the ombudsman's character in the scarce Latin American media which have dared to introduce it. To do so, in depth telephone interviews were conducted with 10 of the 12 ombudsmen that exist in Latin America. The results reveal the existence of a rather great diversity of variables and of numerous forms of being for a same professional character.

The fifty years in which he has been a journalist have not discouraged him from unconditionally defending journalistic ethics. In this interview, Colombian Javier Darío Restrepo refers to the crisis which nowadays affects journalism, to the place of ethics in the editing rooms and to the viability of self regulation in Latin American media. Deeply convinced that ethics sell, Restrepo states that, in journalism, as in any other human activity, the end never justifies the means.

The notable popularity which listeners' participation in radio programs has acquired in the last few years has taken some authors to come to consider it as a radiophonic genre. Nevertheless, a more detailed reading of gene as a pragmatic element makes one discard this consideration and speak more in terms of genres of participation. Currently, these are: the audience's contest, consulting, and interrogatory. The reasons which dissuade one from speaking of participation as a genre are described in the present article and the features which characterize genres are mentioned.

During years past, interactivity —as the audience's possibility to be on a certain way present on those communicative processes carried out by media— has been one of the most widely discussed aspects of media reality. This possibility isn't new news for radio. In fact, as mass media, radio has an exclusive series of features which stimulate, and even privilege, the incorporation of listeners in broadcast.

This paper offers the results of a content analysis on how Spanish media are using the 360º video feature. Unlike other conventional ways of storytelling, this new modality provides the viewer with a sensation of being really present in a reality that is only being represented, which favors a deeper and more meaningful understanding of it. The study consists of a sample of 147 360º video features produced by 19 Spanish media between January 2015 and December 2017. The results confirm a slight increase in the number of publications in 2017 and a preference for using this format to cover social issues. The main purpose of these features seems to be to show the events in their context. The use of the several techniques to increase the sense of presence is still low.
