The purpose of this study was to compare the average distances from the root apices of the first molars, second molars, and second premolars to the mandibular canal according to sex in the Peruvian population using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Eighty CBCT scans of Peruvian patients aged from 15-80 years were examined. After locating the mandibular canal, measurements of the vertical distances from the mandibular canal to the apices of the second premolars, as well as the first molars and second molars, were made. For the statistical analysis, Student’s t test was used for both paired and unpaired samples, with a significance level of p<0.05. On the right side, the second molar presented a mean distance of 3.99mm for males and 2.87mm for females, showing a significant difference (p[removed]0.05) between the distances from the apices of the second premolars and the first and sec...

The hybrid prosthesis is a very predictable treatment option that allows patients to recover their oral functionality. It is a good alternative to conventional treatments and overdentures. The present report describes controlled an 80 year old female patient with controlled hypertension, who came for consultation with a bar overdenture with attachment holders on two external hexagonal dental implants; an immediate loading hybrid prosthesis was installed over four mandibular dental implants.

The application of artificial intelligence (AI) in the dental field was reviewed in this article. The objective was to review the evidence on artificial intelligence and its application in the different dental specialties. A search was carried out on Medline/PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science databases from 2017 to 2021. Three hundred and twenty-one articles were found, of which 62 were selected and allowed the application of AI in six specialties: periodontology, implantology, forensic dentistry, oral medicine and pathology, orthodontics and diagnostic/cariology/endodontics. The specialty of diagnosis/caryology/ endodontics had more articles on the topic of AI and convolution neural network was the type of AI most used. It was concluded that AI is being widely used in dentistry showing promising results as they show an accuracy equivalent to that of different trained specialists and in...

In recent years, the percentage of dental implant placement has increased, and the presence of adverse events and complications are not uncommon. The vast majority of recommendations for reducing complications associated with dental implant placement are analyzed from the point of view of their direct causes, evaluating the technique and/or the individual, but not the system as a whole, being this the actual etiology of complications. The inclusion of human factors and situation awareness has recently gained increasing importance in oral implantology complications and has allowed global analysis of both the individual and the environment, providing solutions based on prevention. However, knowledge and use of these aspects in oral implantology are still in the process of popularization, and therefore, the objective of this article was to describe the human factors involved and situation a...

Dental concrescence is an anomaly in which the cementum overlying the roots joins, causing the union of two different teeth. It is often reported in posterior dentition, affecting certain dental procedures such as root canal treatment, periodontal procedures, orthodontic movement, and dental extraction. This case report describes the successful diagnosis and treatment of a 20-year-old male with a moderate skeletal class II who was referred for a radiographic evaluation after 1 year of failed orthodontic movement of teeth 1.1 and 1.2. The radiographic assessment with a Cone Beam Computed Tomography allowed discarding other related pathologies and diagnosis of a dental concrescence. The patient underwent orthognathic surgery in which class II was corrected, and the concrescence was treated with a prosthetic approach.
