A doce pacientes con diagnóstico clínico de endometritis-salpingitis-pelviperitonitis sin masa pélvica, se les practicó culdocentesis, laparoscopía y cultivos en medios aeróbicos y anaeróbicos de las secreciones obtenidas del endocervix y del fondo de saco de Douglas por culdoscopía y laparoscopía. En cuatro casos la infección fue causada por un solo agente bacteriano y en ocho fue mixta. Los gérmenes más frecuentemente aislados fueron Estafilococo albus, Escherichia coli y Bacteroides sp. En ningún caso se aisló Neisseria gonorrea. Como tratamiento se administró doxiciclina oral 100 miligramos cada doce horas por diez días, siendo eficaz en todo los casos, con remisión total del cuadro clínico en siete días o menos y con mínimos efectos secundarios.
