La neuralgia postherpética es definida por la presencia, persistencia o aparición de dolor después de un mes de haberse iniciado el cuadro clínico de herpes zoster. La neuralgia post herpética (NPH) se ha constituido en la complicación más frecuente del Herpes Zoster que provoca una mala calidad de vida llegando muchas veces a incapacitar al paciente y constituye una emergencia médica en pacientes mayores de 50 años (1,2). El Herpes Zoster es la reactivación del Virus de la Varicela-Zoster, el cual se sembró en los nervios sensitivos durante un ataque de varicela generalmente en una etapa temprana de la vida. Introduction: The diversity of health needs in a national general hospital puts a heavy pressure on both medical assistance and administrative management. Knowing the pathologic and demographic profile of hospitalized patients in the Department of Medicine may allow us to plan future investments in infrastructure, logistics, equipment, and healthcare personnel, and it may also facilitate an appropriate resource allocation, improving both availability and quality of services.
