The objective of this study was to analyze the relationship between emotional intelligence and aggressionin high school students. A sample of 567 students (men and women) from 12 to 17 years of age from fivestate educational institutions of the city of Trujillo was randomly selected. In that sense, they were appliedthe Aggression Questionnaire (AQ) of Buss and Perry and the Emotional Intelligence Inventory of Bar-On.The results show the existence of significant and inverse correlation of emotional intelligence with aggression in general and its factors (verbal aggression, physical aggression, hostility and anger) Keywords: Emotional intelligence, aggr ession, hostility.

El presente estudio analiza la relación entre inteligencia emocional y agresión. Se parte del supuesto que la inteligencia emocional influye en la disminución de la conducta agresiva. Se ha evaluado una muestra de 567 adolescentes, con un rango de edad de 12-17 años, escolarizados en el nivel secundario, en 5 centros educativos estatales de la ciudad de Trujillo, seleccionados aleatoriamente. Los resultados indican que se logra confirmar la hipótesis general que señala la relación entre la inteligencia emocional y la agresividad. Se logra establecer una correlación inversa, que da a entender que a mayor inteligencia emocional menor agresividad o en sus defectos que a menor inteligencia emocional mayor agresividad.
