The complex themes belong to a polychrome relief made from mud located in two pre-Hispanic temples that belong to Moche Culture in the northern coast of Peru dated circa VII century AD. This is an extraordinary symbolic and artistic representation found in the last XX century. This iconographic composition is the result of the strong change of attitude within the Moche society as an answer to the climate crisis. This new attitude implied the instauration of a new order to confront the chaos and the installation of a new mythical-ceremonial calendar represented in these two murals with complex themes. This article focuses on an iconographic study and on the use of etnohistorical sources to approach its importance.

The occupation of the Formative in the El Brujo archaeological complex has not yet been fully investigated. The remains of this period are concentrated to the south of the geological platform, between Huaca Paredones to the north and Huaca Prieta to the south. As is known, Huaca Prieta was investigated by Junius Bird in the 1940s and in 2012 Tom Dillehay and his team excavated the same Preceramic mound and other areas, whose radiocarbon dates exceed 14,000 years old. In this article, the results that the El Brujo Archaeological Program obtained in the years 1996 and 2004-2005 are presented with the purpose of understanding the occupation of this period to the south of the archaeological complex. Indeed, it reports the excavation of four human burials in oval pits associated with Cupisnique-style ceramics, located to the south east of the Paredones Mound and, in addition, the findings of ...

In all the territory occupied by the Moche (Piura-Huarmey), two areas have been differentiated: Northern Moche and Southern Moche. This differentiation was made based on the study of ceramic styles and forms. With the analysis of the monumental architecture, the thesis of the existence of two territorial areas of the Moche phenomenon is reinforced. There are notable differences between the models of the two areas. The main buildings in the northern area such, as the pyramids of Sipan and Fortaleza in Pampa Grande, have large volumes in the form of truncated prisms with terraces and/or platforms at different levels and intercommunication ramps, without the presence of a front ceremonial plaza, quite the opposite occurs in the southern area, where the main buildings are platforms with stepped facades, with lateral access ramp to the top and a front plaza. The model of the southern area is ...

In this brief fieldwork report is presented a preliminary study of the huaca Tomabal (VV 118-4: 9) in the Virú valley that unfortunately was partially destroyed with heavy machinery by farmers. Fortunately, an ornate surface with its respective stratigraphy was preserved. Indeed, it is noted the existence of five superimposed buildings with construction techniques typical of the Final Archaic and Formative periods that appear on the south face of the affected mound. The most surprising issue is the discovery of a painting wall with the image of an anthropomorphic being that apparently holds a ceremonial knife in one of its extremities. This early wall decoration is unique in the Virú Valley, so it deserves attention in future research work.
