In Mexico, the municipalities of Dzán, Oxkutzcab, Santa Elena and Ticul are located in the South of the State of Yucatán. They are characterized by citruses production, the high migration rate towards the United States, the educational backwardness and high levels of poverty. In this context, residentes have access to different technologies devices and platforms that they use por specif purposes. We assume that the practice tecnology use seem to be determined by institucional education, and by the need for comnunication to stablish or mainntain some kind of emotional bond with the parents or relatives who emigrated and settled permanently in United States.

El presente artículo se propone reflexionar sobre algunas de las rutas teórico-metodológicas elaboradas para estudiar el proceso migratorio de los jóvenes mayas migrantes.  En el análisis de las corrientes migratorias del país, los hablantes jóvenes de alguna lengua originaria han pasado prácticamente desapercibidos o, en todo caso, existe un limitado conocimiento sobre esta población en particular ya que los estudios sobre migración generalmente se centraron en los varones mestizos y adultos, desatendiendo a los indígenas; recién se ha empezado a formular interrogantes y retos analíticos que intenten dar respuesta a la problemática del joven indígena migrante, pues como ellos mismos expresan: “toda mi juventud la perdí allá” [en Estados Unidos]

In this essay the results of the investigations carried out during 1990 and 1991 in the areas of influence of the indigenist radio stations are presented: "La voz de Chinantla", Oaxaca (XEOJN); "The Voice of the Huastecas", San Luis de Potosí (XEANT), and "The Voice of the Mountain", Guerrero (XEZV), which constitute an exploratory approach to the cultural consumption of the media in the coverage of the aforementioned stations, as well as revealing the reception habits of the radio audience. It should be noted that the study was developed from the receiver's perspective; for this reason, the work does not specifically account for the offer of the media, but rather tries to approach cultural consumption based on topics such as ownership of radio and television, seniority in the possession of the medium.
