Are included 25 men and 7 women. The complement fixation reaction (RFC ) was used , according to the technique 50% hemolysis Bozicevich and hemagglutination reaction ( AHR) , the microtitration plate technique . Toxoplasma antigen used was provided by the National Communicable Disease Center in Atlanta, Georgia. In 15 ( 46.87 %) , serology was positive ; of these, 8 were between 21 and 30 years old and 5 between 31 and 50 , ie at the stage of greater work capacity. 4 obstetric symptoms, 3 had positive serology and of them, a seven pregnancies referred with symptoms of threatened aborti...

In 1919 the first case of Chagas disease in Peru ( 1) was diagnosed , but two years earlier had shown infection with T. cruzi in triatomideos captured in a valley of the department of Arequipa (2 ) . Subsequently no investigation was carried out on this disease until 1943-1944 ( 3) , the first epidemiological studies were made, the second case diagnosed and showing natural infection with T. cruzi in guinea pigs and dogs in a zone where we now know that disease is endemic. It is from 1950-51 (4) (5) , that research and report that we had the opportunity to present the VI International Congress of Tropical Medicine and Malaria (6 ) will intensify, we collect 204 cases diagnosed by several researchers in polls made in 7 departments and the first came from Madre de Dios ( Arequipa , Tacna , Moquegua , San Martín , Cajamarca and Amazonas) ; plus information on triatomideos , animal reservoir...

The first Peruvian cases of myocarditis and digestive megaformaciones in patients with Chagas' disease is presented. The diagnosis was established by the reaction of complement fixation test and xenodiagnosis. The authors conducted extensive clinical study and highlight the cardiac and gastrointestinal findings. One was advanced chronic myocarditis that led to the sudden death, facilitating necropsy. The second patient represents the first case of me-Peruvian gacolon Chagas. Commenting on these cases highlights the importance and significance of the presence of Chagas disease among workers insured Peru; the epiderniológico meaning and impact on work capacity. Emphasis on the danger of spread transfusion sets.

Fourteen cases of Chagas disease were discovered by complementfixation tests among 214 residents of Lima who had come from endemic areas of Peru. Xenodiagnostic tests conformed that six had Trypanosoma cruzi in the ciculating blood many years after leaving an endemic area. In view of the known establishment of the vector, Trianoma infestans, in certain districts of Lima and the great number of people who are leaving endemic areas to settle in the city, there in clearly indicated a danger of creating new endemic foci in Lima.

For several years we are conducting research in conjunction with clinical and epidemiological aspect of the disease do in Peru, in order to obtain information on the magnitude of this problem is between us. Studies by Escomel (6), 1917; Ayulo and Herrera in 1944 (1) (7); Donayre Lumbreras C. Cornejo and in 1950-1951 (2) (3) (4); C. Studying tropical deseases in the Department of Madre de Dios, we had the opportunity to colect some snakes there and in the city of Quincemil wich is situaded in the jungle of the Department of Cuzco, bordering with Madre de Dios. The snakes where studied by Dr. Jehan Vellard from the Museo de Historia Natural Javier Prado de la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, who made the determinations. In this small collection there are specimens of the family Crotalidae,Elapidae and Colubridae. Among them there are specimens of solenoglipha, proteroglipha, opistoglipha and aglipha. We found the following species in the South.Orient: Bothrops castelnaudi (D. & B.), Lachesis muta (L.), Micrurus peruvianus, Micrurus hemprichii Jan, Xenodon severus (L.), Imantodes cenchoa (L.), Philodryas olfersii Lichtenstein, Oxybelis acuminatus Wied, Dipsa caterbyi Sentzen sp. and a specimen of the sub-...

During the second quarter of 1960, in our laboratory in Lima, we examined 5 stool specimens from 5 different persons residing in Iquitos, who presented a dysenteric syndrome. The results are summarized in the following conclusions: 1.- The presence of E. histolytica has been confirmed in 5 stool specimens from 5 different people, all residents of Iquitos, demostrating the appearance of an endemic outbreak of amebiasis in that city. 2.- The wheatley technique was demostrated to be an effective staining method for amoebas in stool specimens fixed and preserved in P.V.A. solution; its use is recommended to standardize methods and obtain information on the incidence of amebiasis in Peru.

During the month of Augusto 1957, we realized epidemiological investigations about Chagas disease in the department of Madre de Dios which can be summarized by the following conclusions : 1.- In the principal populated centers of the department of Madre de Dios there are epidemiological conditions which favor the dissemination of Trypanosomiasis cruzi. The human dwelling is overpopulated, its in habitants live in promiscuity with the domestic animal, which in other places of America they play the role or reservoirs of T. cruzi and the characteristics of the construction permits entrance, permanence and, reproduction of triatominos. 2.- In Puerto Maldonado city Rhodnius pallescens has been found, showing that hapyly it has not adapted itself to the characteristicas of the dwelling in that area, to which it enters circunstantially. 3.- It has been, proved that in Madre de Dios R. pallescen...

He has practiced Guerreiro - Machado reaction in 1010 specimens from the same number of people , following the technique of 50% hemolysis of antigen using Bozicevich and total aqueous extract of T. cruzi ( forms of culture in medium Senekjie ) prepared Peruvian strains isolated from people and Trialoma infestans. In the study group , 551 Lima residents who had long previous residence in another department and 459 residents Samegua and Moquegua, locations known for their high endemicity for Chagas included . Reactions in 1010 , he found , 98 ( 9.70 %) were positive , 20 ( 1.98 %) suspicious and 31 ( 3.07 %) anticomplementary . The incidence was higher in females , 12.33 '% , and in the following age groups: 60 and older, 24.42 % ; 50 to 59 years , 13.86 % ; 40 to 49, 13.64 '% and 30 to 39, 9.16 % positive cases . Growing number of young men from different regions of Peru, postulate their income annually to various units of the police institution. The routine medical examination to undergo these candidates in the Department of Cardiology, Hospital Police Lima, offers opportunity to do research on some aspects of national pathology. 3 years screening for Chagas disease is performed in subjects born or derived from chagasic regions, having had occasion to use our "index of suspicion" for the diagnosis of this disease in subjects come Tacna, Moquegua, Arequipa, Madre de Dios, Amazonas and San Martin (1).
