Purpose: To determine the relationship between mothers’ knowledge level and hygiene practices in foodpreparation in Miguel Grau and Nueva Alianza communities’ welfare kitchens, during the months of Mayand August, 2008. Methodology: The present research was a cross-section, correlational study; the samplewas obtained from 35 mothers to whom two instruments were applied: a survey to determine the knowledgelevel and an observation guide to determine the hygiene practice in food preparation. Both instruments wereapplied to the welfare kitchens belonging to the Miguel Grau and Nueva Alianza communities in Lima, Peru.Results: In regards to the knowledge level 68.6% of mothers were found in an intermediate level, 17% holda deficient knowledge level, and only 14.3% had a good knowledge level.
