Medicinal plants have therapeutic applications in the treatment of diabetes and currently an in vitro model has been developed to analyze plant species that exhibit hypoglycemic activity by inhibiting the enzyme ?-glucosidase. Objective: To determine the inhibitory activity in vitro of the extracts of Calliandra angustifolia Spruce ex Benth (bobinsana) and Piper aduncum L. (matico) on ? – glucosidase. Methodology: Samples were collected for convenience, micropulverized and subsequent preparation of extracts evaluated by spectroscopic analysis at concentrations of 100, 250, 500 and 1000 ug/mL where millipore water was used as a dilution medium and the drug acarbose as test control. Results: The ethanolic extract of bobinsana bark at a concentration of 100 ?g/mL showed better inhibition % than the ethanolic extracts of bobinsana and matico leaves; even against the positive control (acarb...
