Introduction: Intracerebral aneurysms are incidental findings in imaging studies performed for other diagnoses. Case Report: 35-year-old female patient, who presented syncope after severe headache without yielding to conventional treatment with NSAIDs; with a history of long-standing headache and sporadic treatment. On examination: neurological: awake, facial asymmetry, dysarthria, decreased muscle strength in both lower limbs, no meningeal signs; the brain tomographic report without contrast indicated: expansive brain lesions of etiology to be determined at both sides of the diencephalon: rule out glioma vs aneurysms; cerebral Angiotac with contrast, reflects bilateral intracranial internal carotid and middle cerebral (mirror) aneurysms. Subsequently the patient was evaluated by the neurosurgeon on duty, who indicated to refer to a center of higher complexity, for not having the necessa...

Omental infarction is an inflammatory, self-limiting, benign and infrequent process of the omentum major, resulting from vascular involvement. We present the case of a 34-year-old woman who went to the Emergency Room with lancinating abdominal pain, located in the mesogastrium, with irradiation to the lower left quadrant. On physical examination of the abdomen, decreased hydro-aerial noises, pain on palpation on the left flank and left iliac fossa, left lumbar percussion fist (+) are heard. The ultrasound was not contributory and the tomography revealed, in the left iliac fossa, an image of fat density of 30 mm x 15 mm with hyperdense halo, adjacent to the anterior edge of the descending colon in relation to left omental infarction. The importance of diagnostic presumption and the decision between conservative or surgical treatment is highlighted.

Introduction and Aim: Suicide and harmful alcohol consumption are major health problems, especially in medical students. This study aimed to evaluate the association between risk for alcohol abuse and suicide risk in medical interns of Peruvian hospitals. Design and Methods: We conducted a multicentre cross-sectional study in medical interns from 18 Peruvian hospitals. We measured suicide risk, risk for alcohol abuse, depression and self-esteem using the Plutchik Suicide Risk Scale, CAGE, Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, respectively. We used χ2 and Student t-tests for descriptive analysis. To evaluate the association between risk for alcohol abuse and suicide risk we generated crude and adjusted Poisson regression models with robust variance and estimated prevalence ratios with 95% confidence intervals. Results: We surveyed 433 medical interns. The pre...

Objective: To estimate the prevalence of depression and abuse and identify the associatedfactors in medical interns in Peruvian hospitals. Methods: We conducted a multicentre, cross-sectional and analytical study during themonths of March to May 2016. We included medical interns from 18 Peruvian hospitals,in Lima and provinces. We used a survey that included sociodemographic data and a scaleto measure the perception of abuse (psychological, physical and sexual). In addition, weused the Spanish version of the PHQ-9 to evaluate depression. We used Poisson regressionwith robust variances to calculate prevalence ratios (PRs).Results: A total of 402 medical interns participated in the study, the median age was 25[IQR: 21–33], and 52.7% were male. Moreover, 25.4% of them suffered from depression. In theadjusted model, the variables associated with depression were age (PRa = 1.15), the numbero...

Introduction: The medical internship is an entirely hospital stage where the mistreatment can adversely affect students' performance. The study's objective was to determine the characteristics and factors associated with the perception of abuse in medical interns in Peru. Materials and methods: Multicenter, cross-sectional and analytical study. We surveyed medical interns from eighteen Peruvian hospitals. Sociodemographic characteristics included a scale that mediates the perception of psychological, physical, and sexual mistreatment in the study. The researchers used generalized linear models and prevalence ratios at 95% confidence intervals. Results: 418 medical interns participated, 52.9% were women. The psychological, physical, and sexual mistreatment perceived was 91.9%, 55.5%, and 34%, respectively. A relationship was found in medical interns who perceived psychological maltreatmen...
