Fragilidad es un síndrome de origen multifactorial, dinámico, que suele aumentar con la edad, producido por alteraciones en uno o más dominios de funcionamiento humano (físico, psicológico y social). Trae consigo deterioro global del estado de salud y finalmente vulnerabilidad que puede aumentar el grado de dependencia y la morbimortalidad. Dentro de los múltiples instrumentos de estudio de fragilidad existentes, la Escala Clínica de Fragilidad (CFS) resalta por ser de fácil uso, rápida, validada en varios continentes y usada en nuestro medio, no requiere entrenamiento especializado y se puede realizar a pie de cama. Health Care Associated Infections (HAS), Foodborne Illness and zoonoses generate high costs for public health. A simple and inexpensive measure, and with evidence of its effectiveness in their prevention is handwashing, a protocol established by the World Health Organization (WHO), that is taught in professional training programs to students of human and animal health, as well as those who process food. The aim of this descriptive and cross-sectional study was to evaluate handwashing by bioluminescence in students during their performance in practice centres, as well as their knowledge and attitude towards handwashing, by a survey involving 45 students from the Gastronomy, Nursing and Veterinary Medicine in their last cycle of academic training of a private higher education institution (Concepción, Chile). Mujer de 58 años con diarrea crónica secretora, edema de miembros inferiores, disnea a leves esfuerzos con flushing intermitente, con imágenes y estudios auxiliares compatible con un tumor carcinoide primario de ciego asociado a síndrome de corazón carcinoide: síndrome Hedinger. Fue tratado con análogos de somatostatina y operada de recambio valvular tricuspídeo, con buena evolución clínica; sin embargo, posteriormente falleció de muerte súbita.
