Continuing with the theme of violence and hope in our societies, it presents interesting works on the role of mental health workshops in the southern Andes, domestic violence and child abuse, as well as religious violence. It includes an article on the mystique of the saint of the poor and of the Spanish poets: Saint John of the Cross, co-founder of the Order of the Discalced Carmelites with Saint Teresa of Jesus. Latin America continues to walk a history of pain, of struggles, but also of hope. Poverty and violence are realities that occur without interruption over the decades and, why not say it?, over the centuries. However, always, and despite everything, there was a place for poetry, song and dance.

América Latina sigue caminando una historia de dolor, de luchas, pero también de esperanzas. La miseria y la violenca son realidades que se suceden sin interrupción a lo largo de las décadas y, ¿por qué no decirlo?, de los siglos. Sin embargo, siempre, y a pesar de todo, hubo lugar para la poesía, el canto y la danza. Del mismo modo, nunca faltaron espacios en los que convergieran inteligencias y voluntades dispuestas a apostar por la vida, a pesar de todo.

Gender is a relatively new concept in our midst. It is not, as has often been understood, a feminine issue, although historically its genesis has had much to do with the irruption of women in social life and with their claims. It is much more than that, since it affects and involves all people, whether men or women, young or old. Nor is it just a cognitive tool, because, as Diego Irarrázaval says in his article, published in this magazine, "it is about a perspective and action that transforms human relationships and historical forms."

Para Occidente hace poco han terminado y han comenzado un siglo y un milenio. En todo el mundo se celebró la despedida y el advenimiento con un gran despliegue de gestos simbólicos de esperanza, de afirmación de la vida, de esperanza y de sueños de plenitud para todas las personas y para todos los pueblos.

Under the motto "Put down new roots for a life in abundance", the II Surandina Social Week was held from April 13 to 16, 1999. The initiative came from the Peruvian Episcopal Conference and reached the South Andean region through Caritas del Perú. The bishops and pastoral agents of the jurisdictions of the area welcomed the invitation as an opportunity to prepare the jubilee celebrations in the spirit of listening, welcoming and dialogue.

El actual contexto de cambio y globalización va incidiendo notablemente en la transformación de las identidades colectivas de base. Para aproximarse a este proceso histórico se ha formulado la siguiente hipótesis: estaría emergido un nuevo perfil del catolicismo desde el interior de los pueblos excluidos. El camino de verificación ha asumido la experiencia religiosa cotidiana de la gente  aimara del distrito de Pilcuyo.

En el presente trabajo se intentará algo muy difícil: adentrarse en el misterio. Sí, porque así como es insondable la realidad de Dios, también lo es la del corazón de los hombres y mujeres que, interpelados por su Palabra, se ponen de pie y salen a buscarlo por los caminos de su historia personal y social. El pueblo aimara de Pilcuyo, lugar donde se ha desarrollado la investigación, cuenta con una larga experiencia de buscar a Dios en su vida y en su historia.
