Introduction: Unmet needs for contraception are high in Peru and worldwide. Proper advice from health professionals maximizes use and compliance of contraceptive methods meeting the needs of every woman. Objectives: To determine the impact and determinant factors of gynecologists’ advice for women choosing a self-administered hormonal contraceptive method, either daily pill, weekly transdermal patch or monthly vaginal ring. Se presenta el estudio de 113 casos de pacientes tratados con Prostaglandina E-1 para evacuación uterina, realizado en el Departamento de Obstetricia del Hospital Nacional Edgardo Rebagliati Martins del Instituto Peruano de Seguridad Social, entre enero de 1992 y diciembre de 1993. El motivo del estudio fue la búsqueda de una alternativa al uso de la Oxitocina para la evacuación uterina, en casos en que estuviera indicado dicho procedimiento por alguna razón médica. Se utilizó la vía oral y, en ocasiones se combinó con la vía vaginal. Los resultados fueron exitosos en 103 casos y frustras en 1 O (8. 8%). Los efectos colaterales fueron mínimos. This work was done with the intention to make a firm diagnosis of pregnancy in the first trimester, since at this stage, often Therapeutic positions should be dependent on fetal vitality. The study involved 250 pregnant women whose gestational age ranged between 6 and 14 weeks, and varied own pathology of this quarter. An ultrasound equipment that uses the Doppler Effect (brand SONIC-AID) was used. The advantages of this method over others, primarily safety, easy implementation and immediate results, place it as a weapon of choice in the daily practice of Obstetrics.

This work is new in our institution and our country. The IUD TCu 200 long filament, is used for the first time in this hospital and the patient being operated cesarean and needs a reasonable spacing of their next child is given, valuing the high reproductive risk, which means intergenesic period short and the possibility of uterine rupture increases in this period. Also, we consider that we have used the TCu 200 with long filament, which facilitates placement and location of this guide, leaving the cervix, due to its size (35 cm) and thus allows an easy location IUD by the cervix. This device was provided for study by the Mexican Academy of Medical Research in Demography.

Objetivos: Determinar las características clínicas y patológicas de las pacientes con diagnóstico de embarazo ectópico en el Hospital Nacional Edgardo Rebagliati Martins (HNERM) entre 1998 y 2002. Material y Métodos: En un estudio descriptivo y retrospectivo se incluyó 203 casos de embarazo ectópico entre enero de 1998 y diciembre del 2002 en el HNERM. Resultados: Se encontró una frecuencia de 0,55%. El mayor porcentaje de pacientes presentó una edad entre 25-39años (89,17%), menarquia entre 9–13años (66,50%), edad gestacional entre 6–8sem (48,77%). La cirugía abdomino-pélvica fue el antecedente más frecuente en 102 (50,24%) pacientes y el método anticonceptivo más usado fue el DIU en 45 (22,16%) pacientes.
