Purpose. This article presents a systematic review of the scientific literature on the phenomenon of astroturfing, with particular attention to its impact on digital communication and manipulation of public opinion. Online astroturfing, as a disinformation strategy, simulates an authentic grassroots movement when it is a false orchestrated campaign that erodes democratic deliberation. This research responds to the need to systematically study astroturfing campaigns, given the scarcity of reviews on the topic (Kovic et al., 2018; Zhang et al., 2013). Methodology. La circulación de desinformación constituye un rasgo estructural del hábitat informacional juvenil en América Latina. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo explorar cómo mujeres universitarias peruanas enfrentan la desinformación y qué estrategias de verificación desarrollan. Se realizaron seis grupos focales presenciales con 36 estudiantes de Comunicación (18-21 años), analizados mediante codificación temática. Los resultados muestran que la desinformación es asumida como parte inevitable de su dieta digital y gestionada mediante procesos de adaptación situacional que generan ambigüedades entre confianza y vulnerabilidad, credibilidad y consumo, y tensiones en las relaciones familiares y entre pares. Introduction: Information disorders represent a growing threat to social cohesion, public health, and democratic systems. Media literacy in higher education emerges as a key strategy to mitigate their impact, although its implementation poses theoretical and methodological challenges. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the empirical production politeracy interventions targeting university students, identifying the theoretical frameworks underpinning them, their implementation and methodological characteristics, and the reported effectiveness of these strategies in mitigating misinformation in students.
