El uso de la revocatoria de mandato en el Perú es un fenómeno sorprendente; mediante esta se ha revocado a más de cinco mil autoridades subnacionales, lo que podría estar afectando la gobernabilidad subnacional. El objetivo de este artículo es identificar la combinación de factores que llevan a la activación de una revocatoria de mandato a alcaldes distritales. La contribución de este trabajo es doble. Por un lado, se identifica que existen cuatro diferentes combinaciones de factores que activan la revocatoria en el Perú. Asimismo, se analizan lo ocurrido en cada una de las dinámicas identificadas luego de un cambio normativo que, entre otras reformas, eliminó la posibilidad de convocar a elecciones adelantadas tras un proceso de revo-catoria y que obliga a los promotores a rendir cuentas a los organismos electorales.
