This work is an approach to the Andean music and it studies the special significance that music has for the people of the Peruvian Andes. The article analyzes the origin and evolution of music genres in the Andean world, whose background belongs to the pre-Hispanic music. Likewise, the work studies the emergence, development and themes of the three known genres of Andean music: huaino, harawi and yaravi. Of these three musical genres, the huaino is the most popular genre of the Andean music; it has varied forms and it iscultivated in all regions of Peru. The harawi is a genre of the prehispanic music that has been preserved with certain characteristics in the people of the countryside. The yaravi is a mestizo music genre that emerges from the evolution of the harawi during the Republican era and it is characterized by expressing the sadness of the human soul.

The cultural manifestations of the Andean world have an important expression in the narrative of José María Arguedas. In the novel Diamantes y pedernales, the music acts as a unifying and revitalizing factor of the Andean culture, for which it is articulated with the principles of its cosmovision. From this point of view, the music is closely related to the different beings that constitute the Andean universe. Thus, the characters, musical instruments, rituals and the social and cultural practices share an interrelation and inter-influence. On the other hand, the clothing, made up of a series of garments or outfits typical of the indigenous community, distinguishes and identifies the characters in the novel and is associated with certain meanings. Analiza la función de la música y su carácter unificador y revitalizador de la cultura andina. Para cumplir con dicho estudio, se ha realizado un análisis textual de la novela y una lectura crítica e interpretativa del corpus narrativo. Además, se plantea los siguientes objetivos específicos; primero, explicar el funcionamiento de la música en la novela Diamantes y pedernales y determinar su relación con la cultura andina. Segundo, analizar las nociones y principios andinos que rigen y determinan las relaciones existentes en el mundo representado en la novela. Tercero, analizar las características musicales y sonoras en relación con el universo representado en dicha novela. Y, cuarto, presentar una aproximación a la música como rescate, tratamiento, valoración y divulgación en la obra antropológica y literaria de Arguedas.

Marcos Yauri Montero (1930) is a writer who belongs to the Peruvian Andean narrative. One of his novels is Maria Colon (1980), which deals with the refoundation of the Uco town after a flood that caused its destruction. The objective of this article is to analyze the status of the main characters of the Colon family according to the elements that define them in the course of the novel. For this purpose, a critical reading of the novel is carried out through the use of theoretical contributions related to memory, letter and migration.
