Se identificaron las historias clínicas de 278 pacientes puérperas del Hospital Belén de Trujillo que cumplieron con los criterios de inclusión y exclusión, dentro de las cuales 139 presentaron IMC pregestacional elevado, mientras que las 139 restantes presentaron IMC dentro del rango de la normalidad o inferior. Se evaluó el resultado neonatal mediante el APGAR al quinto minuto. Los datos obtenidos fueron registrados en las hojas recolección y presentados en cuadros y gráficos, para posteriormente ser analizados estadísticamente con el Test Chi-cuadrado de Pearson. Resultados: Se encontró que el 36,7% fueron mujeres obesas, que, a su vez, conforman el 73,4% de la población expuesta con IMC elevado. Entre las gestantes con IMC pregestacional elevado, el 28,8% de los recién nacidos tuvo un APGAR <7, mientras que entre las gestantes sin IMC pregestacional elevado, solo el 2,9% de los recién nacidos tuvo un APGAR <7. El valor resultante de p <0,001 nos indica la fuerte asociación entre las variables dependiente e independiente. Conclusión: En este estudio se concluyó que existe una fuerte asociación entre el IMC pregestacional elevado y un puntaje Apgar neonatal anormal al quinto minuto

Materials and methods: An analytical study was conducted using a retrospective cohort design. The medical records of 278 postpartum patients from the Belén Hospital in Trujillo who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were identified, of which 139 had elevated pre-pregnancy BMI, while the remaining 139 had BMI within the normal range or lower. Neonatal outcome was assessed using the APGAR score at the fifth minute. The data obtained were recorded on the collection sheets and presented in tables and graphs, to later be statistically analyzed with the Pearson Chi-square test. Results: It was found that 36.7% of the participants were obese women, who in turn accounted for 73.4% of the exposed population with elevated pregestational BMI. Among pregnant women with elevated pregestational BMI, 28.8% of newborns had an APGAR score <7, whereas among those without elevated BMI, only 2.9% of newborns had an APGAR score <7. The resulting p-value <0.001 indicates a strong association between the dependent and independent variables.
