Se encontró que trabajar en áreas críticas y el incumplimiento del lavado de manos se asociaron significativamente con la portación manual de agentes patógenos con un OR de 2.3 y 6.8, respectivamente. Conclusión: En el personal de salud del Hospital Víctor Lazarte Echegaray de Trujillo, la falta de adherencia al adecuado lavado de manos se asoció a la presencia de bacterias patógenas en las manos.

Materials and methods: Analytical cross-sectional study in 246 health workers. A hand washing adherence survey of participants was conducted and then a dominant hand sample was taken for culture. Results: 62.2% presented adequate adherence to hand washing. 33.3% had manual carriage of potentially pathogenic agents. It was found that working in critical areas and non-compliance with hand washing were significantly associated with manual carriage of pathogens with an OR of 2.3 and 6.8, respectively.
