Se utilizó la prueba estadística de chi cuadrado, que permite evaluar la relación entre variables y comprobar la validez de la hipótesis planteada. Resultados: En el presente estudio, se encontró que existe relación entre caries dental e higiene oral (p=0.012). La prevalencia total de caries dental en los niños fue del 82%, y el índice de higiene bucal fue aceptable en un 44% de los niños. No se encontró relación entre caries dental e higiene bucal según edad ni sexo, a excepción del sexo masculino (p=0.042). Conclusiones: Existe relación entre caries dental e higiene bucal en niños de la I. E N°80006 Nuevo Perú.

Material and Method: A cross-sectional observational study was carried out with a sample of 100 children of 10 and 11 years of age of both genders. To evaluate the prevalence of dental caries, the odontogram was used and the CPOD index was recorded and to evaluate oral hygiene the O'Leary index was used, both internationally validated methods for measuring the state of dental health. The chi- square statistical test was used, which allows evaluating the relationship between variables and verifying the validity of the hypothesis posed. Results: In the present study, a relationship was found between dental caries and oral hygiene (p=0.012). The total prevalence of dental caries in the children was 82%, and the oral hygiene index was acceptable in 44% of the children. No relationship was found between dental caries and oral hygiene according to age or sex, except for the male sex (p=0.042). Conclusions: There is a relationship between dental caries and oral hygiene in children of I. E.
