Sumario:This paper titled seeks to identify factors associated with smoking in college students given the large increase between the world statistics on this subject. In all countries this is an issue of great concern since it is presented as one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide and in our country this is no exception. Given these circumstances make this type of study needed to offset the inclusion of young people smoking and awareness of their fatal consequences, it is for these reasons that the following problem arose to find out which factors are associated with smoking in students of the Faculty of Physical Sciences and Mathematics, National University of Trujillo 2011. This descriptive, correlational cross-sectional as well as being a non-experimental research. It included a sample of 265 students who have applied a survey, with the following objectives: To estimate the prevalence of smoking in the UNT factor to determine the association of pressure, level of information, lifestyle and communication factor family are associated with cigarette consumption. To determine the association between the above factors with cigarette consumption, we used the nonparametric test of independence chi-square criteria, considering a significance level of 0.05. It was concluded that peer pressure and lifestyle factors associated with cigarette consumption
