Sumario:This is a descriptive study, reviewing medica] records of 155 elderly patients with hip fracture diagnosis in Trujillo Regional Teaching Hospital in the períod 2007- 2011, in order to know what are the epidemiological characteristics: Age, gender, national origin, marital status, occupation, comorbidities, fracture type, place of occurrence and production mechanism, whose main conclusions were: the most common age group was 80 to 89 years with 47%, female gender was the most frequent (73%), most of the patients carne from the district of Trujillo (73%), the state of widowhood corresponded to 38.7% and is the most common occupation of housewife, 53.5%. The most common comorbidity was arterial hypertension with 47.1%; the trochanteric fracture is the most common, 62% and place of occurrence in most cases was the home, 56.8%, the most common mechanism of fracture production hip is the low energy with 88.4%. It is recommended that a prospective study which includes cohabitation status and anemia as comorbid factors in the prognosis.
