Descripción
Sumario:Objectives: To determine the knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding organ donation among medical students at the National University of the Peruvian Amazon in 2025. Methods: A quantitative study with an observational, analytical, and cross sectional design was conducted using a non-probabilistic convenience sample. Data were collected through a questionnaire validated by expert judgment. Results: The study included a total of 215 participants. Of these, 61.4% demonstrated a high level of knowledge about organ donation, with the highest error rates in questions related to legislation and the national organ donation system. A favorable attitude was observed in 87% of participants; however, the most frequently reported concerns included fear of inadequate medical care, commercial use of organs, organ retrieval without confirmed death and distrust in the healthcare system. Regarding practices, 58.6% were unfavorable, with only 32.09% registered as donors. Knowledge was significantly associated with area of residence (x²=18.677; p=0.001), and academic level (x²=24.094; p=0.020). Age also showed a significant association with level of practices (x²=11.205; p=0.004), and a significant correlation was observed between knowledge and practices. (x²=6.213; p=0.021). Conclusions: Despite favorable levels of knowledge and attitudes toward organ donation, practices were mostly unfavorable, revealing the need to strengthen medical education to promote effective actions.
