Departamento Académico de FitotecniaEl cultivo del algodón fue considerado de gran importancia en décadas pasadas sin embargo en los últimos años las áreas cultivadas se han reducido lo mismo que su producción y rendimiento. Debido a este problema, la demanda interna de fibra de algodón tiene que cubrirse con importaciones mayormente de Estados Unidos de Norteamérica debido a calidad de fibra y los beneficios arancelarios a las importaciones en dicho país. Teniendo en cuenta que el algodonero es un cultivo económico y social, el presente trabajo busca analizar la situación actual del algodón, a través de datos estadísticos de MINAGRI y su comparación a lo largo de los últimos años. Asimismo, conocer y entender el proceso detrás de la comercialización e importación de fibra de algodón estadounidense, con la clasificación de algodones hechas por el USDA (Departamento de agricultura de los estados Unidos), la fijación de precios en contratos de compra venta de fibra y la documentación requerida en Perú para estas importaciones. Igualmente, se muestra datos estadísticos de la evolución de las importaciones en los últimos años según la longitud de fibra y valor CIF en Miles de dólares.The cotton crop was considered of great importance in past decades, however in the last years the cultivated areas have been reduced as well as their production and yield. Due to this problem, domestic demand for cotton fiber should be covered with imports mainly from the United States because of fiber quality and the tariff benefits to imports in that country. Considering that cotton is an economic and social crop, the present work seeks to analyze the current situation of cotton, through statistical data of MINAGRI and its comparison over the last years. Also, know and understand the process behind the commercialization and imports of US cotton fiber, with the classification of cotton made by the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture), pricing in fiber sales contracts and the documentation required in Peru for these imports.
