Doctorado en Ciencia AnimalEl objetivo del presente estudio fue evaluar el potencial productivo, aceptación y preferencia de tres leguminosas forrajeras tropicales y su efectividad para mejorar el status nutricional de vaquillas en crecimiento a partir de suplementación proteica utilizando banco de proteína. Este estudio se llevó a cabo en el Instituto Regional de Desarrollo de Selva (IRD-Selva), perteneciente a la Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina (UNALM), ubicada en el distrito de la Banda de Shilcayo, provincia de Tarapoto, región San Martín. Para lograr el objetivo general se llevaron a cabo 3 experimentos. 1) Establecimiento y productividad de tres leguminosas (Stylosanthes guianensis, Centrosema macrocarpum y Arachis pintoi) con suplementación de fósforo. 2) Aceptación y preferencia en el consumo de leguminosas forrajeras en terneros. 3) Tasa de crecimiento de vaquillas como respuesta a la suplementación del banco de proteína. En el establecimiento de leguminosas se evaluó la emergencia (%), altura de la planta (cm), cobertura del suelo (%), relación Hoja/Tallo, disponibilidad del forraje (KgMS/ha), y presencia de plagas o enfermedades. En la aceptación y preferencia se evaluaron la tasa de ingesta (g/min). En el tercer experimento se evaluó, la disponibilidad del forraje en los potreros y banco de proteína, presupuesto de actividades, valores nutritivos de la dieta y tasa de crecimiento (g PV/día). Los resultados fueron: 1) Stylosamthes guianensis cv y Centrosema macrocarpum cv fueron más fáciles de establecer y alcanzaron una mayor productividad que Arachis pintoi, así mismo las especies presentaron una respuesta positiva significativa al abonamiento fosforado. 2) A. pintoi y S. guianensis presentaron mayor aceptación y preferencia. 3) Las vaquillas con acceso al S. guianensis como banco de proteína presento una ganancia de 481g / día y 421 g/día para el grupo sin acceso al banco de proteína. Se concluye que, el uso de Stylosanthes guianensis como banco de proteína mejoro notablemente la ingesta de energía y proteína cruda, repercutiendo en un mayor incremento en la tasa de crecimiento.The objective of the present study was to evaluate the productive potential, acceptance and preference of three tropical forage legumes and their effectiveness to improve the nutritional status of growing heifers from protein supplementation using a protein bank. This study was carried out at the Selva Regional Development Institute (IRD-Selva), belonging to the La Molina National Agrarian University (UNALM), located in the Banda de Shilcayo district, Tarapoto province, San Martín region. To achieve the general objective, 3 experiments were carried out. 1) Establishment and productivity of three legumes (Stylosanthes guianensis, Centrosema macrocarpum and Arachis pintoi) with phosphorus supplementation. 2) Acceptance and preference in the consumption of forage legumes in calves. 3) Heifer growth rate in response to protein bank supplementation. In the legume establishment, emergence (%), plant height (cm), soil cover (%), Leaf/Stem ratio, forage availability (KgMS/ha), and presence of pests or diseases were evaluated. In acceptance and preference, the intake rate (g/min) was evaluated. In the third experiment, the availability of forage in the pastures and protein bank, activity budget, nutritional values of the diet and growth rate (g LW/day) were evaluated. The results were: 1) Stylosamthes guianensis cv and Centrosema macrocarpum cv were easier to establish and achieved greater productivity than Arachis pintoi, likewise the species presented a significant positive response to phosphorus fertilization. 2) A. pintoi and S. guianensis presented greater acceptance and preference. 3) The heifers with access to S. guianensis as a protein bank presented a gain of 481g/day and 421g/day for the group without access to the protein bank.
