El objetivo principal fue desarrollar una alternativa que permitiera una mayor rentabilidad que el sistema actual, mediante una ordenación mejorada del componente forestal. Para ello, se caracterizaron las condiciones tecnológicoproductivas aplicadas en el sistema actual, se diseñó la propuesta y se realizó una evaluación económica para ambos casos. Se encontró que el área cuenta con condiciones edafoclimáticas favorables para la agroforestería con cacao y bolaina. El cacao es cosechado regularmente todo el año y tiene un alto rendimiento por hectárea (3 t/ha/año de cacao seco). En cambio, para la bolaina, por tener la función principal de provisión de sombra, solo se consideró su aprovechamiento en dos raleos en los años 3 y 5, y en la corta final en el año 25. Por ello, la propuesta buscó optimizar la ordenación forestal de la bolaina mediante rotación de cortas, recalce, manejo de rebrote, entre otras actividades. De esta forma, se estimó que se podría llegar a aprovechar 21 m3/ha de madera cada dos a tres años. Con esto, la propuesta alcanzaría un VAN de 108444 PEN y una TIR de 92%, mientras que el sistema actual, un VAN de 102501 PEN y una TIR de 89%. Esto indica que mejorar la ordenación del componente forestal en un sistema agroforestal contribuye a aumentar su rentabilidad. Adicionalmente, se estimó la existencia de carbono, que para el sistema de siete años resultó ser de 15,95 tC/ha.In this study, an agroforestry system combining cacao and bolaina in Tingo Maria was evaluated. The main goal was to develop a proposal that could increase the system’s profitability through an improved management of the forestry component. To do that, the current technological and productive conditions were characterized, the proposal was designed and two investment appraisal methods were used to compare both alternatives. It was found that cacao trees are harvested regularly all year round, and have a high yield (3 t/ha/y of dried cacao beans). However, for bolaina trees, since their main role is to provide shadow, only two thinnings were conducted in years 3 and 5, and the final harvest is planned for the year 25. Therefore, the proposal looked forward to optimize the management of bolaina trees through short-rotation cutting cycles, replanting, coppicing, among other activities. As a result, it was estimated that it would be possible to harvest around 21 m3/ha of wood every two to three years. With that, the proposal would reach a NPV of 108444 PEN and an IRR of 92%, while the current system, a NPV of 102501 PEN and an IRR of 89%. This indicates that improving the management of the forestry component in an agroforestry system contributes to increasing its profitability.
