Departamento Académico de FitotecniaLa presente investigación tuvo como objetivos describir la morfología, anatomía y germinación de la semilla de Erythrina edulis (pajuro), así como evaluar el efecto del tamaño de la semilla y del tiempo de almacenamiento sobre el porcentaje de germinación y el crecimiento inicial de las plántulas. El estudio se realizó bajo condiciones controladas de laboratorio, aplicando un Diseño Completamente al Azar (DCA) con un arreglo factorial 3×3, conformado por tres tamaños de semilla (grande, mediana y pequeña) y tres tiempos de almacenamiento (5, 20 y 35 días). Las variables evaluadas fueron el porcentaje de germinación, así como el vigor, la longitud del tallo y de la raíz. El análisis de germinación, basado en los criterios de la ISTA, no mostró diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre tratamientos, aunque visualmente se observaron tendencias asociadas al deterioro fisiológico por almacenamiento. En cambio, el análisis de vigor reveló diferencias significativas en la longitud del tallo y de la raíz. El tamaño de la semilla influyó de forma significativa en ambas variables, siendo las semillas grandes las que generaron plántulas más largas y vigorosas. Asimismo, el tiempo de almacenamiento afectó negativamente la longitud del tallo y de la raíz, con una disminución progresiva a mayor tiempo de almacenamiento, especialmente evidente entre los 5 y 35 días. No se detectó interacción significativa entre los factores. Los resultados respaldan su posible clasificación como semilla intermedia, al presentar tolerancia parcial al almacenamiento y conservar su capacidad de germinación en condiciones controladas. La caracterización morfológica y anatómica de la semilla permitió observar tejidos diferenciados y reservas abundantes en cotiledones.The present research aimed to describe the morphology, anatomy and germination of the Erythrina edulis (pajuro) seed, as well as to evaluate the effect of seed size and storage time on germination percentage and initial growth of seedlings. The study was carried out under controlled laboratory conditions, applying a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with a 3×3 factorial arrangement, consisting of three seed sizes (large, medium and small) and three storage times (5, 20 and 35 days). The variables evaluated were the percentage of germination, as well as vigor, stem and root length. The germination analysis, based on the ISTA criteria, did not show statistically significant differences between treatments, although visually trends associated with physiological deterioration due to storage were observed. In contrast, the vigor analysis revealed significant differences in stem and root length. Seed size significantly influenced both variables, with large seeds generating longer and more vigorous seedlings. Likewise, storage time negatively affected stem and root length, with a progressive decrease with longer storage time, especially evident between 5 and 35 days. No significant interaction between the factors was detected. The results support its possible classification as intermediate seed, as it presents partial tolerance to storage and preserves its germination capacity under controlled conditions.
