description Introducción: el uso no supervisado de anticonceptivos hormonales es un problema de salud pública que afecta especialmente a adolescentes y mujeres jóvenes. Este trabajo analiza los riesgos asociados con la automedicación, destacando la importancia de la educación y el monitoreo médico. Métodos: la investigación incluyó la revisión de 10 artículos científicos seleccionados de bases de datos como UDCA, SciELO, Scopus y el repositorio de la Corporación Universitaria Remington, utilizando palabras clave relevantes para el tema. Resultados: la falta de educación y acceso a servicios de salud impulsa la automedicación. Factores como las barreras económicas y socioculturales aumentan el uso no supervisado de anticonceptivos en poblaciones vulnerables, especialmente en zonas rurales. Los efectos adversos más comunes incluyen náuseas, irregularidades menstruales y riesgos cardiovasculares. Estrategias educativas culturalmente adaptadas, han demostrado ser efectivas para reducir esta práctica. Conclusión: es esencial implementar programas educativos integrales y políticas públicas que garanticen acceso equitativo a servicios de salud. Promover el conocimiento y la consulta médica puede mejorar la salud reproductiva y fomentar un uso seguro y responsable de los anticonceptivos.

Methods: the research included the review of 10 scientific articles selected from databases such as UDCA, SciELO, Scopus and the Remington University Corporation repository, using keywords relevant to the topic. Results: lack of education and access to health services drives self- medication. Factors such as economic and sociocultural barriers increase unsupervised use of contraceptives in vulnerable populations, especially in rural areas. The most common adverse effects include nausea, menstrual irregularities and cardiovascular risks. Culturally adapted educational strategies have proven effective in reducing this practice. Conclusion: it is essential to implement comprehensive educational programs and public policies that guarantee equitable access to health services.
