Este estudio tiene como objetivo realizar una revisión sistemática del nivel de conocimiento y uso excesivo del levonorgestrel, analizando 10 estudios seleccionados entre 2019 y 2024 en bases de datos reconocidas como Scopus, Scielo, ScienceDirect y Dialnet Plus. Los resultados evidencian un amplio acceso al medicamento, especialmente en mujeres jóvenes, pero con escasa comprensión sobre su uso adecuado y los riesgos asociados. Se destaca una alta frecuencia de consumo fuera del periodo recomendado y una tendencia a emplearlo como método anticonceptivo habitual. Se concluye que es esencial fortalecer la educación sexual, regular su venta, fomentar la atención farmacéutica responsable y diseñar políticas públicas que aseguren un uso seguro, eficaz e informado del levonorgestrel.

However, its irrational use—primarily due to self-medication and lack of medical guidance—has become a growing public health concern. This study aims to conduct a systematic review of the level of knowledge and excessive use of levonorgestrel by analyzing 10 selected studies published between 2019 and 2024 from databases such as Scopus, Scielo, ScienceDirect, and Dialnet Plus. The findings reveal broad access to the drug, particularly among young women, but limited understanding of its proper use and associated risks. A frequent misuse beyond the recommended 72-hour period and its application as a routine contraceptive method are also observed.
