Es común que en la consulta ortodóntica lleguen pacientes con alteraciones maxilares, los cuales algunos son dentales, el tratamiento será ortodoncia, otros pacientes están en el límite, donde se camuflará la maloclusión, el tratamiento será ortodoncia con control de crecimiento y otros con deformidades dentofaciales, lo cual van a necesitar tratamiento orto-quirúrgico, el tratamiento será ortodoncia y cirugía ortognática; este es un tratamiento en conjunto desde el inicio hasta el final; porque ambos buscan corregir funcionalmente la oclusión, masticación, deglución, fonación, hábitos, ronquidos, problemas de articulación temporo mandibular y problemas estéticos
