Se realizó siguiendo un enfoque cuantitativo, método hipotético deductivo, de tipo sustantivo de nivel descriptivo, diseño no experimental transversal, correlacional. La población estuvo constituida por 152 ingresantes a la Facultad de Ingeniería Química y Textil de la Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería el 2016. Los resultados obtenidos en cuanto al pensamiento crítico revelaron que el 17.1% de los evaluados se ubican en el nivel bajo, el 30.9% en el nivel medio, el 38.8% en el nivel alto y el 13.2% en el nivel muy alto. En cuanto a la autoestima se encontró que el 25.7% se encuentran en un nivel bajo, el 14.5% en un nivel medio y el 59.9% en un nivel alto. Los resultados del contraste de hipótesis demostró que existe correlación significativa entre el pensamiento crítico y la autoestima en ingresantes de la Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería 2016 con Rho de Spearman de .218 para p= .007< .01.
