International trade is an important component of the economic structure and dynamics of countries, especially those that are relatively small, such as Peru and Chile, located in the Southern Hemisphere. These economies can be considered small and open, characterized by their dependence on the mining sector, with similar characteristics in their policies of openness to the international economy, and with an agricultural export sector well positioned in international spheres. Regarding the latter, Peru ranks fifth in the world ranking of fresh fruit exports and leads the growth of this item through 2006-2022. Due to the dynamism of this segment, this case study analyzes the incidence of world economic variables on fresh fruit exports, both in Peru and Chile. The external factors considered are linked to the destination markets; and will be considered variables such as the Fruit Price Index in the United States and the Gross Domestic Product per capita of the United States and the Euro Zone. A Multiple Linear Regression Model of Ordinary Least Squares will be applied to determine the correlation between the variables. The objective of the case study is to contribute to the debate on the agro-export sector that allows delineating medium and long-term policies to strengthen the sector and its contribution to the national economy, considering the influence of the external context, characterized by the variables used in the present case study.
