El propósito de este estudio es explorar la mediación parental en la experiencia digital de sus hijos, además, descubrir si este comportamiento es diferente según el género de estos. Para este fin, se aplicó una investigación de tipo cualitativa, con entrevistas a profundidad a madres y padres de hijas/os de 11 a 14 años. Los resultados indican diferencias en el comportamiento de la madre y el padre en cuanto a sus estrategias de mediación parental en la experiencia digital de sus hijos. Asimismo, esta mediación parental, se aplica de forma diferenciada según el sexo de los hijos. Este trabajo puede orientar a los padres para fomentar en sus hijos pautas para una navegación segura y aumentar su capacidad de autorregulación en las redes sociales.

The confinement of students due to the COVID-19 pandemic revealed the amount of free time that adolescents use to browsing social media, increasing the risks of exposing themselves to risky situations such as sexting, grooming and cyberbullying. The purpose of this study is to explore the behavior of parents regarding their parental mediation strategies in their children's digital experience, in addition, to discover if this behavior is different according to their gender. For this purpose, a qualitative investigation was applied, with in-depth interviews with mothers and fathers of teenagers from 11 to 14 years old. The results indicate differences in the behavior of the mother and the father in terms of their educational intervention, mediation strategies and the digital experience of their children. Likewise, this parental mediation is applied in a differentiated way according to the sex of the children. This work can guide parents to encourage safe web browsing guidance in their children and increase their ability to self-regulate in social media.
