Murmullos: si la selva pudiera hablar… y nosotros supiéramos escuchar

Murmullos is a contemporary artistic exhibition project that presents the investigation initiated in 2019 on the threats that affect the Ecuadorian Amazon jungle through the transmission of its sounds. This exploration is located in Taisha - Morona Santiago - Ecuador, a city that was born like many other cities in the Ecuadorian Amazon due to oil prospecting around 1939. In 2016, a highway was built that connects this city with the rest of the country, which has allowed its transformation, as well as the significant increase in deforestation. The research results in a sound installation entitled Duramen, consisting of the trunk of a seique tree that was found collapsed in Taisha. With the intention of metaphorically listening to the memory of this tree, an acoustic mirror was carved on it. When we bring our ear closer to one of the parabolic concavities, we can hear a sound landscape made up of audio recordings recorded in the environment where the trunk was located, sounds of the forest combined with those of the machines. With this work, we sought to represent mainly through sound, our relationship and dependence with the trees of the tropical forests and their importance for the climatic balance. Another result is «Albura», «Líber I» y «Líber II»aerial photographs of the green sea of trees crossed by rivers and highways. «Taisha» «Cambium I» y «Cambium II» are photographic transfers on seique, cannelloni and laurel wood where the photographs are mixed with the color of the wood, evidencing landscapes affected by humans. In the Amazonian ecosystems, biodiversity overflows. However, its existence is in danger due to the asymmetrical and accelerated growth of deforestation.
