It is considered necessary to be able to identify and analyze the elements of dependency benefits of the French legislation that allow sustaining that the dependency can be protected by the Chilean social security system. The elements presented will allow the development of a more informed debate about the protection of an increasing group in Chile.La protección de la vejez se ha convertido en una preocupación constante en los últimos años. Dentro de este contexto, la protección de los adultos dependientes se presenta como un nuevo riesgo social para la seguridad social. Este enfoque es el que se aborda en este trabajo, para lo cual se utiliza el modelo francés de protección de la dependencia. Se sostiene que la seguridad chilena puede seguir este enfoque. Se estima como necesario poder identificar y analizar los elementos de las prestaciones de dependencia de la legislación francesa que permitan sostener que la dependencia puede ser protegida por el sistema de seguridad social chileno.
