| Sumario: | This article analyzes the poem «Casa de cuervos» («House of Crows»), by Blanca Varela, and focuses on the bond between mother and son, in relation to the effect it has on the female lyrical voice in the physical (her body), affective and spiritual (her soul) planes. The mother feels guilt for having brought her son into a hostile world, she recognizes the similarities between him and herself. The son suffers from her progressive distancing, but ends up accepting it, since it is an inevitable separation derived from the son's independence. In that sense, her identity is conditioned by the tense experience of motherhood. |
