Descripción
Sumario:The main objective of the study was to obtain and describe transversal measurements for ultrasonographic evaluation of superficial digital flexor tendon (perforated tendon), deep digital flexor tendon (piercing tendon) and suspensory ligament of toraxic member in Peruvian Walking horses. 30 specimens were evaluated, male and female, who have had no history of tendon and/or ligament injury. An ultrasound Sono Scape ® brand was used with a 5-7 MHz linear transducer for ultrasound evaluation. Cross section measurements were taken at different areas of the 3rd metacarpal (cannon bone) at a referential distance from accessory carpal bone. A statistical evaluation was made in order to determine average measures for the breed. It was found that Peruvian Walking horses have thinner flexor tendons and suspensory ligament than Anglo-Saxon horses, non-trained heavy horses, Thoroughbreds, and Ponies. It’s expected that these results give reference information for ultrasonographic evaluation of these anatomic structures in Peruvian Walking horses, making it easier for veterinarians to perform an objective evaluation of injuries at these levels.
