Resistance to ampicillin (aminopenicillin) was observed in 47% of the isolates, followed by chloramphenicol (amphenicol) in 19%, and to tetracycline (tetracycline) in 16%. The most effective drugs were sulfamethoxazole- trimethoprim (95% of susceptible isolates and 3% of resistant isolates) and ciprofloxacin (fluoroquinolone) (93% of susceptible isolates and 0% of resistant isolates). It is concluded that antimicrobial resistance in shrimp aquaculture in Tumbes, Peru, does not pose a risk to public health, but should be monitored through longitudinal evaluations.El estudio evaluó la resistencia por parte de aislados presuntivos del género Vibrio hacia antibióticos de importancia, tanto en sanidad acuícola, como en salud humana. Los aislados fueron identificados por bioquímica y fermentación de un azúcar (sacarosa). En cuanto al perfil de susceptibilidad, mediante la técnica difusión en agar, se enfrentó a principios activos representantes de cinco grupos de antibióticos. A partir de los 57 aislados se identificó a seis (6) especies de Vibrio. Se observó resistencia a ampicilina (aminopenicilina) en 47% de los aislados, seguido de cloranfenicol (anfenicol) en 19%, y a tetraciclina (tetraciclina) en 16%. Las drogas más efectivas fueron el sulfametoxazol-trimetoprim (95% de aislados sensibles y 3% de resistentes) y el ciprofloxacino (fluoroquinolona) (93% de aislados sensibles y 0% de aislados resistentes).
